History
Chez Machin was created in 2001 when owner Bruno Gonsard decided to take his Crépe Stand in NW Portland and turn it into a full service restaurant.
Bruno was born and raised in Chartres France where his love for local French cuisine was cultivated. Many of the recipes of Chez Machin come from Bruno’s family who had been a huge influence on his culinary explorations.
Chez Machin has steadily grown and improved over the past decade. We are looking forward to more great years in the Hawthorne neighborhood and hope you come and enjoy a delicious meal with us!
Artwork
Chez Machin loves to host local artwork.
We have two different permenant sets of paintings in our restaurant . On the patio we have a dessert abstract from famed film director Gus Van Sant. In the hallway we have a black and white painting from local artists Yo and Peach Mutsu.
We also have a rotating set of paintings and drawings in our dining rooms. Anyone who is interested in having their work shown in Chez Machin send us an email. Please include your name, contact information, and a sample of your work. We will get back to you and let you know what we have available.
Food
While Chez Machin’s food is based on the local and rural cuisine of France, it has grown and changed with the times and culture of the Hawthorne neighborhood.
Chef Seth Neeser took over the kitchen in 2008. Since that time he has continued to improve and update the menu to keep up with the times. Keeping things fresh, current, local, and delicious is on the top of our priority list. Let us know if you have any suggestions to help us continue to grow as a business.
